OFA-verified means we matched a clearance in the OFA public database on a Shih Tzu the breeder bred. A breeder without a match may still health test; we only count results we could check. 2 of these listings have an open red flag; each profile shows the evidence and how to dispute it.

Common Shih Tzu health concerns
Brachycephalic airway syndrome, Eye issues (proptosis, keratitis), Hip dysplasia, Dental disease. Ask the breeder which of these the parents were screened for, and for results you can check.
Breeder licensing in Arizona
Arizona requires a County kennel permit, issued by the county board of supervisors / county animal control, not by the state if you keep 5 or more breeding dogs (kept in an enclosed controlled area, unless each dog is individually licensed).
No state issues a breed-specific breeder license, and a state license never replaces a USDA license or local zoning.
Search the Arizona Department of AgricultureAnesthesia risk in short-nosed breeds
Short-nosed breeds like the Shih Tzu carry extra airway risk under anesthesia. Before any procedure, ask whether the clinic has a brachycephalic anesthesia protocol.
