This VET emergency location is truly the best. They are so compassionate, timely, collaborative and supportive during a visit. While emergency vet situations are difficult to navigate, they take their time to ensure you understand what is happening with your pet and what the options are so that you can make a true informed decision about your pets care. Sedation for a Frenchie is very difficult and they took so much time and care to make sure he could breathe and handle procedures without issue.
I wish these providers and techs were primary care as I would not hesitate to take my sweet puppies to them for their standard care. With three “Bo’s” being cared for at once, there was no time they were confused. Our Bo received so much love and support while we navigated his swollen gland. He is now home and snuggling with his sister.
Thank you for all that you do. You’re truly amazing individuals!
My husband and his good buddy and fishing pal Nina were at the park the other day and a scary incident happened. Nina is a 2 year old Chihuahua with an incredibly sweet and loving disposition. Husband turned away for just a moment to speak with the game warden and heard his fishing pole move. He glanced around and Ms Nina had swallowed the treble hook that was surrounded by catfish powerbait. He clipped the line and called me in a frantic state. I looked up Emergency Pet Hospitals. Came upon VEG and decided to go there because it was close.
By the time husband reached the clinic, he was hysterically weeping. He felt so guilty even though it wasn't his fault. She's a dog and catfish powerbait probably smells delicious to a dog.
At the moment of arrival to the clinic, the staff displayed an amazing level attention and care. Not only for Nina, but for her Daddy too. It's so special there because they allow you to remain with your pet at all times.
They x-rayed her and the hook was located in her esophagus.
We had 2 choices...surgery or the Great Beyond.
The veterinarian was Victoria, she is an angel incarnate. We were so stressed out with the decisions that need to be made. She gave us space, loving encouragement and guided us to the conclusion to at least try and save her with surgery.
With steady hands, Victoria pushed the hook into her stomach, being careful not to tear any tissue on the way. She exposed her stomach, made an incision, and got the hook out without further incident.
Victoria carefully stitched her up and off to the recovery area.
Nina was highly medicated and high AF, so she had no clue what was going on. Britney made up a little area for me so that I could spend the night with Nina next to me.
The love never wavered at any point while we were in the clinic for over 12 hours. Not just for us, but for EVERYONE that walked through the door.
I would definitely recommend this place for anyone that needs a loving place to take their furry friends.

We recently moved and my bird got a new cage at our new house and for the first time in 6 years escaped her cage. This unfortunately led to my cats attacking her and she was injured. It was after hours for Exotic Pet Vet so we took her here to VEG. We have had a positive experience here in the past with an exotic pet so we trusted that they’d treat us well again. Upon arriving at the ER our bird Frankie was laying on her side and showing signs of stress. Before performing a physical examination, Dr. Chambers told us her leg was broken and her breathing was labored. We requested that she still physically examine her. After briefly looking at her and not examining the area that looked wounded, Dr. Chambers told us that her lung was likely punctured, she was in a lot of pain, and the most humane thing to do was to euthanize her which was devastating to hear. After the doctor put her back in her carrier she was standing up and alert and moving around. We asked if they could perform an X-ray to assess the damage and confirm if her lung was punctured so that we may make an informed decision about the next step. We were told that she was too small and it would stress her out too much. Because she seemed to be turning around for the better we did not feel comfortable making the decision to put her down despite the doctor’s insistence that it was what was best to do. We were told that if we took her home, she likely wouldn’t survive until morning because cat bites are nasty and her chances of survival were very poor. Despite the doctor’s pressure to euthanize we decided to ask for pain meds and antibiotics so that we could have her assessed by Exotic Pet Vet first thing in the morning. The staff continued to make side comments about it being “a matter of quality of life”. We waited a very long time for our meds to be filled and Frankie really started looking better again in her carrier. They told us the wait was due to “more critical patients” which is understandable at an ER but a little hypocritical considering they claimed our bird was too unwell for diagnostics and in so much pain we had to euthanize on the spot. They eventually gave us our meds and never cleaned her wound.
I am writing this review because I am deeply disappointed in the care and compassion we received at this visit. Coming to an ER is always difficult because we generally are unfamiliar with the person we are entrusting with our loved family member and it is usually a highly emotional and stressful circumstance that brings people to the ER. Had we not had advice from someone in the field we likely would have put Frankie down that night. She is alive and thriving today having finished her antibiotic course prescribed at Exotic Pet Vet. Her lung was not punctured. Her wound was minor and her leg was not broken. I am glad that we followed our instincts having known our girl for 6 years despite their professional advice. I understand that not all veterinarians specialize in caring for animals considered exotic like birds and all hospitals aren’t
equipped with the measures to properly treat them but I would have much rather had honesty in that situation instead of pressure to put my pet down. I would be reluctant to bring my pets back here to see Dr. Chambers again. We are uncertain if Frankie was bitten or scratched by the cat but we are very fortunate to still have her with us today.
Thank you V.E.G. You were all so compassionate, kind, professional and acted with a sense of urgency when we brought in our 10 year old Great Dane mix for a "compassion visit." At a time when we were initially uncertain about our decision to move forward with euthanasia, you assured we had made the only choice. There was no time wasted on gaining our Onyx's weight when we came in the door or questioning the state of Onyx's health. Upon arrival, we were met in the foyer by staff that knew we were on our way in to be seen for the compassion visit. There was no wasted time with questioning the health of our beloved dog as it was apparent he was in distress. We cannot thank you enough for helping Onyx transition peacefully in a calm setting. Onyx is now in heaven and we will see him again
