The Cardiology team here at OSU is incredible. We are so lucky to have Dr. Karsten here in Ohio and as our pup’s doctor. Thanks to him, our dog is staying healthy. From the parking attendant to the front desk to the techs and doctors, every single person at OSUVMC deeply cares and understands how important our pets are. You won’t find a better vet center. How lucky we are to have OSUVMC!
I've never been here before, but I will certainly never return.
My cat, Kahlua, stopped eating three weeks ago for no discernable reason. I have had her worked up over and over, and every single test has come back normal. I've spent $6k trying to figure out what is wrong with her and why she won't eat, just to come up short with no solution. I had to have a feeding tube inserted in her neck last week after going 12 full days without any food and start tube feeding her 4x a day.
Yesterday, she was so lethargic she was borderline completely obtunded for most of the day. I genuinely could not wake her, and of the few moments where she did wake -- she was completely ataxic, falling and stumbling over herself, unable to walk straight, and fell down our stairs. FAR BEYOND anything normal for her even 24 hours prior. And I'm a critical care nurse, I know when something is neurologically off, even if it is an animal.
I live in Northern Kentucky and OSU is a 2.5 hour drive for me.. but I have read great things about this facility and their capabilities, so I called off work mid-shift and drove all the way there because I was so desperate. Towards the end of the drive and once she was inside of the treatment area, she started to perk up a little bit as her adrenaline kicked in from fear of the vet.
I waited 5 hours to receive any sort of update. The doctor eventually came to tell me that because she woke up for them, they didn't want to do quite literally ANY work up on her and sent us home packing with zero interventions. I begged for a CT scan as I think her issues are stemming from a neurological basis instead of primarily GI, and he literally said no. They charged me $350 just to tell me to get lost because my cat's exam with the stress of the vet's office was better than her previous 15 hours at home.
Keeping her in a metal cage overnight with no medications/interventions in order for Internal Medicine to take a look at her the following morning was going to cost $4,500. So I took her back and started the 2.5 hour journey back home..
This morning, she's nearly impossible to wake again. If I stand her up, she falls over. Won't lift her head off the ground either.
My cat is going to die at home because OSU genuinely didn't give AF. Could not be more disappointed in her "care". Will absolutely never return.
I'm not sure how to even start this review.
Sunday 6/14/2026 our heeler Emma suddenly became unwell.
Hemoab.
Rushed from our primary vet to OSU.
A kidney mass, possibly benign.
Emergency nephrectomy.
OSU is supposed to be " the best"
The surgeons brought her through her surgery miraculously. I had signed a DNR. I was skeptical she would make it through. But she did. They must be very good at what they do.
Our nightmare began shortly after.
Just hours after a major abdominal surgery. I repeat HOURS.
The side rail was lowered on her crib that was approx 3-4 feet from the floor and she was able to "jump" out, hitting her head on the floor and breaking multiple teeth. Just hours after surgery while still being sedated.
If that wasnt bad enough, the foot bandage holding her picc in place was so tight she swelled from her toes to her hip. We had to bring this up on our daily visits twice
She had diarrhea while hospitalized and suffered from fecal scald. We were told upon discharge we could put desitin on it. WHY wasnt this done for her as soon as she showed signs of this and why wasn't she cleaned up after episodes sufficiently to prevent it ?? A 5 dollar tube of desitin.
Then today,2 days after discharge they called us to tell us that Emma had tested positive for a hospital acquired antibiotic resistant bacteria, transferable to humans and other pets. HOSPITAL AQUIRED.
No one said anything about this possibility when we left.
You can't make this stuff up.
We were sent home with no pain meds or anti nausea meds.
In the past we've been sent home with more " just in case " meds for less serious procedures.
If this is the best, someone really needs to re-evaluate standards of care.
Our girls diagnosis is not good.
They offered to pay for her dental care. One could surmise they know she isnt going to be around long enough to get it.
I shouldn't responsible for a dime past her surgery.
I feel like she didn't matter much after they found her growth was looking like hemangiosarcoma. Though many dogs, with the right care, have lived a year or more post diagnosis.
Be cautious folks. Ask questions. Demand accountability
I was disappointed to learn after my sweet kitty was be held stable for an overnight stay until the internists came on the clock the next morning. I should have kept her at MedVet in Canal Winchester - feeling she would have had a better chance. they at least have a doctor there 24/7. unfortunately she developed a blood clot to the brain and it wasn't until the next day and declining did I learned about plasma procedure MIGHT of helped her. we had to put her down instead.

After our three legged, two year old Doodle dislocated her remaining back leg, and we were referred to Dr. Dyce and his team at OSU for a total hip replacement.
Dr. Dyce is an expert in this area, and books out pretty far. However, our situation was dire enough that we were able to get an appointment within weeks of me calling.
Dr. Bryce gave our girl a titanium hip, and at her three month follow-up she was cleared for supervised playtime with other dogs!
The compassion, communication, expertise and honest opinions of doctors and staff here were greatly appreciated. They gave us hope, and made it possible for our girl to live free of pain and full of life. We will be forever grateful for the pros at OSU!
This clinic has not reached the certification score, and we have no accreditation or service records for it yet.
