The Downtown Veterinarian

Its nice to find a caring and compassionate veteranary office so close to home. We have been going to the Downtown Veteranarian for about the past five years after deciding to change offices away from another vet located downtown. Our vet, Dr Cline, has a great way with our pet Georgie and has been seeing her for checkups since we started going there. She always has time for questions. The office is very clean and the staff are especially courteous and helpful. The hours of operation allow ample time to schedule appointments as well.

Incredible front office staff, techs, and vets. They’re great with both the fun and exciting moments and the difficult and scary ones. Such a kind, caring, and intelligent team. We have seen 3 of their vets and all were highly competent, trustworthy, and easy to talk to.

The Downtown Vet is the only vet we've taken our little guy to, and until recently we've had no complaints. But after Dr. Buchanan retired things have gone downhill. One example, they now refuse to send prescriptions to Chewy in an attempt to "encourage" you to use their in-house pharmacy. The care at Downtown Vet is already expensive, and now it just feels like they're trying to screw every last penny they can out of us. They'll say their prices are pretty close to Chewy, but I resent the pressure.

After 12 years as a client, I ultimately decided to leave this practice because of ongoing communication and scheduling issues. Last year, my cat Luna had blood work with abnormal findings. I received the results and the doctor’s written comments by email, but I had questions and emailed back seeking clarification. I never received a response. As a pet owner, I found that incredibly frustrating and concerning. When blood work shows abnormalities, I believe clients deserve follow-up and an opportunity to ask questions about what the results mean for their pet’s health. This communication issue came after years of scheduling challenges, where routine appointments often had to be booked months in advance. The reason I finally decided to write this review is what happened after I switched veterinarians. Last week, my cat Alvin had a routine 1st visit with our new vet. He had a routine annual blood draw and was diagnosed with stage 2 kidney disease. According to my new veterinarian, signs of kidney disease had been present in his annual blood work for the last 4 years. At no point was this discussed with us, nor were we advised that additional monitoring or treatment might be necessary. Luna goes to the new vet in a couple weeks. I’m terrified to hear what might be in the abnormalities from last year.

I love this veterinary clinic!! I’ve been coming here for 30 years. Even when I lived in Chicago, I would come down and bring my dogs to see Dr. Wiggers. I love her care for my pets, and all the pets!! The staff is also very professional and kind. I wouldn’t want to go any other place. Thank you for all these years of caring for my fur babies!
