This was my first experience with this Veterinary Facility and I have to say I was impressed by the entire experience. 1st off, the cleanliness was top notch. 2nd, from check in to check out was all of 45 minutes, if that. As soon as we checked in, we were called back for my dog's exam. The vet assistant was thorough and concise with her questions. The vet was honest and didn't sugar coat or dumb down anything. Taking our situation into consideration, he gave us more than one avenue for treatment. Then, I asked for her nails to be trimmed and they readily agreed. I've had to haggle for this at other clinics. 3rd, when my girl came out from her shots and nail trim, she wasn't bleeding! In her 7 years of life, this is the first nail trim that hasn't left her bloody.
All in all, it was a great visit. The staff is great, the building is great, the parking could use some help, but overall it was a fantastic visit.
I highly recommend this vet.
Highly recommend. Excellent, knowledgeable caring staff— vets and techs alike. This is our second dog who’s been in their care over the course of past 5 years. Consistently positive experiences at Rose City Vet.
Our first visit didn’t go very well - our dog was really nervous and had a tough time. But the team at Rose City Vet went out of their way to make sure our next visit would be better. They connected us with Drea, who leads their socialization visits. Every few weeks, we’d come in during lunch hours, when the clinic was quieter, and walk around the exam rooms and facility so our dog could get familiar with the space and with Drea.
Drea was incredibly patient and always helpful. She often followed up with additional resources, and whenever we needed anything she made sure it was taken care of quickly.
The socialization visits made a huge difference and really helped our dog feel more comfortable when it was time to come back for her vaccines!
I strongly advise against taking your pets to this clinic. I had been bringing my 17-year-old calico cat, Muffin, here for her primary care since 2019. She is a senior diabetic cat with arthritis who needs daily insulin, monthly Solensia, and Gabapentin for vet and grooming visits. Under the previous vet, the staff handled her wonderfully with just a little patience and treats.
However, when a new vet took over, she quickly labeled my cat "aggressive" and outright refused to provide care. This is a ridiculous excuse, considering every other veterinary and grooming professional has always been able to treat her without issue.
Because they refused to treat her, we were forced to find an in-home vet. Since the in-home vet couldn't prescribe Solensia, this clinic told us to just bring Muffin in periodically so they could verify she was alive and authorize refills. Yet, every single time I call, the deeply disorganized staff withholds her medication and demands she come in for a "wellness exam"—the exact exam their own vet refused to perform! Because of this constant internal miscommunication, Muffin has missed essential doses of insulin and Solensia in the past.
Today was the absolute limit. They refused to refill her Gabapentin, directly causing her to miss her grooming appointment today. Because she is 17, she is too old to clean herself and desperately relies on these grooming appointments for her well-being.
Veterinarians have a moral responsibility to care for pets, but this clinic completely abandoned a vulnerable, senior animal. I have already started care with a new, competent vet, and I am filing a formal complaint against this clinic with the Oregon Veterinary Medical Examining Board. Avoid this place if you want reliable, compassionate care for your pets.
Everyone was so kind and understanding towards both me and Saki. You all went above and beyond what I expected. Thank you so much.
UPDATE: Saki crossed the Rainbow Bridge last week with the kind help of the wonderful folks at Rose City Veterinary Hospital. The room was softly lit with soft music and Saki went quietly to a better place. They could not have been nicer.
Unlike OnPoint "Community" Credit Union who would not lend me even $500 to help Saki cross the bridge so we both had to wait and suffer for days before I received my Social Security and both Saki and I could end our suffering.
Thanks OnPoint. You are anything but a "community" credit union.
And thank you sincerely to Rose City Veterinary Hospital who came through with flying colors in my time of need. I so recommend Rose City Vet for EVERYTHING.
OnPoint "Community" Credit Union... not so much. There are other, kinder credit unions in Portland like Rivermark who DID come through for Saki when he needed vet help a few years ago.
This clinic has not reached the certification score, and we have no accreditation or service records for it yet.
