Similar to Maria B's review, whoever answers your phone is extremely rude and dismissive. I literally drove to a different emergency vet that is 20 minutes further away from me because I would never want my pet treated at a place that associates themselves with such inconsiderate behavior. Whoever was working on 8/1 and answered my call seriously needs to do redo some training. I called two other emergency vets and was met with a much better attitude and actual helpful advice, unlike whoever I called from your clinic.

I want to let everyone know I DONT WANT TO EVEN GIVE ONE STAR. THIS PLACE NEEDS 0 STARS IF GOOGLE LET ME. Matter of fact this place needs to be shut down and after doing so a wrecking ball needs to be taken through there.
The day before my 5-year-old dog passed away, on April 19, I brought Charlie here because I knew something was seriously wrong. She had been suffering from ongoing seizures and already had an appointment scheduled with their neurologist the following week. However, that wasn’t why I came in that night.
Charlie had started smelling like death, she had been pacing all day, she refused to eat or play, and she had begun urinating on herself inside the house. I even showed the staff security camera footage of how she had been acting because I wanted them to understand how severe the change in her behavior was.
Instead of taking my concerns seriously, the veterinarian barely examined my dog. She wanted to run blood work first, but I asked if Charlie could be seen by a neurologist that night because I believed this was an emergency. Once I said I didn’t want to spend money on blood work if they were refusing to have a neurologist evaluate her, it felt like the veterinarian completely gave up on trying to help. Rather than looking further into what was causing all of these symptoms or stressing how serious her condition was, they simply prescribed more medication and told me it was okay to take her home.
What makes this even worse is that my dog had lost 20 pounds in just one week, and no one even mentioned it. I only found out afterward. When I called to ask why such a significant weight loss had never been discussed with me, the manager tried to tell me it was just a typo. A 20-pound weight loss in one week for a well-fed, 95-pound mixed breed is not a typo. That is an extreme and alarming amount of weight to lose, and any competent veterinary team should have recognized it as a serious warning sign.
You were the medical professionals. I wasn’t. I got Charlie when I was 17 years old, and she passed away when I was 22. I trusted your expertise because that’s exactly why people come to specialists. I expected you to recognize when an animal was in critical condition. Instead, I was reassured that it was okay to bring her home.
The very next night, Charlie died in her sleep.
After she passed away, the only thing this hospital seemed interested in doing was offering me a refund for the medication they prescribed, medication she never even had the chance to take. A refund doesn’t bring someone’s dog back. It doesn’t erase what happened, and it certainly doesn’t make up for the care she didn’t receive.
I also cannot ignore how I felt I was treated as a Black woman. My concerns were dismissed, I felt talked down to, and I left believing my dog was not taken as seriously as she should have been. That is something I will always carry with me.
Dr. Ramirez should have pushed for Charlie to be evaluated by a neurologist that night. Given her symptoms, this was clearly a life-or-death situation. Instead, more pills were added while the obvious signs that something was terribly wrong were overlooked. To make matters worse, I wasn’t even provided with my dog’s medical records afterward.
I believe this hospital failed Charlie. She relied on you when she needed help the most, and they sent her home. Less than 24 hours later, she was gone.
If legal action could bring my dog back, I would pursue it without hesitation. Pet Specialty, don’t get too comfortable. What happened to Charlie should never happen to another family’s pet.
If I could give them 10 stars I would! I took my very special boy, Bowie, for a consult on post-operative options for cancer treatment like radiation and chemotherapy. We opted for electro-chemotherapy. During his 2nd treatment of electro-chemo, I asked Dr. Sheppard to examine another strange growth on a different leg to see if it was also cancerous. Turns out, it was positive for a new type of tumor. Instead of bringing him back for surgery another time, the teams collaborated and were able to do both his electro-chemo and surgery to remove the new growth, as well as a lymph node, during this appointment. I’m so grateful to the care, compassion, and grace the whole team at Pet Specialists bestowed upon the medical treatment of Bowie. He’s a week post-op and is doing very well! Photos attached of just after I brought him home from surgery. The bandana on his neck was to celebrate his last chemo appointment and the whole team signed it with messages, which made my heart explode. Dr. Sheppard and Dr. Reyes had incredible patience explaining his entire treatment, and did so with such kindness. I have full faith and trust in this team of experts to care for him and any other animals.
They are super expensive on everything. I only go as a last resort!! They have a decent selection, with the coupons they sometimes mail out it makes the price comparable to other places regular prices!

Dr. Wilber, technicians, and office staff were amazing!! My poor 11 month old cat was lethargic, not eating or drinking water, as well as losing his balance. His temperature was between 103-105. Dr Wilber got his temp down and after the examination, gave me insight into possible causes and suggested the neurologist at the clinic. Between the excellent care and medications, I have my kitty back!!
