I brought my 3-month-old kitten, Georgie, in for her first wellness exam and vaccinations, and I couldn’t have been more impressed with our experience. From the moment we walked in, the friendliness and professionalism of the entire staff stood out.
We were immediately welcomed by Julia and the front desk team, who kindly accommodated my partner and me by finding us a room with two seats. After only a short wait, Olive, one of the veterinary technicians, came in to review Georgie’s medical history. She was incredibly knowledgeable and took the time to answer our questions while providing helpful advice about caring for a new kitten.
Dr. Gurian was, without a doubt, one of the best veterinarians I’ve ever worked with. She was kind, patient, and thorough, and she made me feel completely confident that Georgie was receiving exceptional care.
I truly can’t say enough good things about this clinic. We’re so grateful for such a lovely first visit and are already looking forward to seeing everyone again at Georgie’s next appointment!
Dr. Graham is the best, most caring, comprehensive, and knowledgeable vet. I recommend him to literally everyone who has a pet because that’s how must I trust him and value his opinions. He has been our vet for years & did an amazing job with my pups surgery. So grateful for him and BBV! Will never stop using them.
DO NOT GO HERE & IF YOU DO, PRICE-CHECK EVERY MEDICATION FIRST. I Was Quoted a 200%+ Markup!
Do not be misled by the 5-star reviews as I was. My experience with Back Bay Veterinary Clinic has been marked by poor transparency, poor communication, and pricing practices that I found deceptive and predatory.
Most recently, I received a text that my dog had tested positive for whipworm and that medication was ready for pickup. No one disclosed the cost in advance. After rearranging my workday and driving through Boston traffic to get there, I was informed that the medication would cost nearly $300.
While standing at the front desk, I found the exact same medication on Chewy for approximately $100.
That's a 200% markup.
What made this especially frustrating was that the price was never disclosed beforehand, nor was I advised that I could purchase it elsewhere for less if I preferred. Instead, I only discovered that after taking time away from work and driving across Boston to pick it up.
After raising the issue, I was contacted by a manager who explained that the clinic marks up medications because they cannot purchase in the same volume as Chewy and operate as a "convenience pharmacy." While I understand that veterinary clinics may charge more than large online retailers, a nearly 200% markup is inexcusable & predatorial.
A veterinarian-client relationship should be built on trust, transparency, and confidence that you are being treated fairly. Clients should not have to investigate medication pricing on their own to determine whether they are being overcharged. Having to do so significantly undermines trust.
This was not an isolated incident. On multiple occasions, I was required to schedule and pay for an office visit when my question could have been answered with a brief phone call or text. One example was when my Great Dane puppy ate garlic. I called seeking guidance and was told I needed to bring him in. After paying approximately $140 for the appointment, the attending veterinarian told me that I did not actually need to bring him in and that there was little reason for concern given his size and the amount consumed.
Veterinary care is already expensive enough without clients having to worry about undisclosed pricing, unnecessary appointments, and massive medication markups. Based on my experiences, this clinic prioritizes revenue over transparency and client care.
I would not recommend this clinic. If you choose to use them, ask for every price upfront, request estimates before agreeing to treatment, and compare all medication pricing independently before making a purchase.
I had a fine time here, they were good with my cats. The staff was nice. That being said, I had to physically mail the paper prescriptions that were written to Chewy. I understand that this is to incentivize the use of their in house prescription shop. It's 2026 and this seems like a very dated process, so something to consider if convenience is a factor (they don't allow Chewy to call and verify prescriptions that way).
My senior Shih Tzu has been a client for 1 month. I can confidently say that BBVC consistently offers accessible, high quality care. Unmatched for ease of scheduling and response time. My dog has a complex medical issue and Dr. Ferraro has gone above and beyond to support her needs while I locate a new internist. Thank you also to Sam, Janna, and Alexandra and the rest of the team for their warm, patient, and accommodating customer service.
This clinic has not reached the certification score, and we have no accreditation or service records for it yet.
