My dog had a major flesh wound on his back paw. The team here started the treatments on him. Everything was going smooth, until they kept trying to up the dose of pain meds and sedatives. I agreed to doubling the doses so the technicians can have an easier time doing a bandage change. Every bandage change, the only comments about my dog was that he gets squirmy and thrashy, but does not attempt to bite or get aggressive. The 2nd to last visit, they really pushed tripling the medication doses and if I didn't, they will have to do a sedation injection. I did not feel comfortable giving my dog triple the dose. So the very last visit here, I told them he received double the dose and not triple. From that point on, I was treated so poorly. The doctor looked at me and spoke to me like I am a horrible and abusive dog owner. The solution I offered, was to allow for me to be the one to hold him down. They told me "we don't typically let the owners back there", "it's all sterilized back there", then the last reason they gave me was "There is a feral cat back there". Hearing "we typically don't" and then the contradicting statements of "we keep it very sterile", yet you tell me there is a feral cat walking around back there?! I was baffled. -Then the doctor tried convincing me that the sedation injection is perfectly safe. I explained and asked, "If you have to take his vitals to ensure he is stable for the injection, plus I have to sign a consent form, in what ways does that suggest it's perfectly safe?" The doctor replies "It is absolutely perfectly safe".... It is absolutely insane for a doctor to completely disregard what effects these drugs have on a dogs stomach, liver, and kidneys and to disregard the concerns of shutting down a nervous system. If you have to CHECK THE VITALS and make the owner SIGN A CONSENT FORM, and the DOCTOR says there is absolutely no risk..... Absolutely mind blowing and very sad. I believe any reasonable person would agree...... I asked for my dog back, and they continued to treat me awfully on my way out. I also want to acknowledge, every time I spoke, I spoke in a calm, professional way. I never became rude or said anything rude or demeaning. The last note: Reading through the discharge paperwork and medical notes from this place, the doctor made sure to add a lot of emotion behind the notes. Keep in mind, they sent all of these notes to the new animal hospital, it seems this first place was trying to give a strong negative image of me to the new place. Again, very unprofessional. Furthermore, the same day and every day since, I have been taking my dog to a different animal hospital. The new doctor listened to my concerns, he asked a lot of questions, he was extremely thorough with everything. I was even complimented on how much I care about my dog!!! I ask the technicians every time how my dog did. Every single time, they told me he did great. He still tries to move around, but he is not aggressive whatsoever. The technicians have had no issues with performing the bandage change. All in all, my experience at the new hospital was amazing. It validated that I am not a crazy person or that I am a bad dog owner. If it made sense to sedate my dog, I would. If it made sense to pump triple the recommended dose of drugs into his body, I would. I really tried my best to understand this animal hospital. I am sure the the "norm" is customers just saying yes to everything and paying for everything without a single question. Unfortunately to them, I am not that person. I understand it's a business at the end of the day. I understand that everyone involved is trying to do their best with the information and knowledge they have. I understand that their company modo is "a cruel free place", which seems to be just a justification to make you pay for unnecessary prescriptions I'm sharing all of this because of how I was treated, the illogical reasoning from a doctor, and the unprofessionalism.
