Southern Paws Dobermans

A Doberman was our dream dog. We found southern paws and decided to contact them. Immediately I was asked for a $500 deposit for a puppy with hardly any other response. Worried it could be a scam, I asked to come meet them in person. To also assess the living conditions of the dogs. We drove about 2 hours out to meet Janelle the owner of “southern paws”. All her dogs were outside in the heat in kennels. Half of their personal dogs had botched ears/ floppy ears. We were then told two dogs were pregnant: one due that day and one due a few weeks later. With no explanation and little communication, only 1 dog ended up having a litter. With the promise of a sonogram on the other dog which was never spoke of again. We were given hardly any photos, videos or info on the condition of puppies. They don’t crop the ears like a respectable breeder should- they leave that up to the buyer. And then give little to zero info on that which is INSANE to me. This is when all red flags were out. It’s like pulling teeth to get them to reply or have any communication. And when they do it’s short and cold. They were happy to take our $500 deposit though but silent otherwise and show little care for the breed. Other breeders contacted me warning me of them. We have decided to not pursue any further with southern paws: and surprise surprise they have zero response or reply (go figure). They gladly kept our $500 deposit for doing absolutely nothing and having minimal forced contact with us over the past few weeks. Dont take my word, go on a Doberman group page and mention southern paws, they’ll all tell you NOT to support them. They are not legitimate breeders, they’re in it for the $$$ ONLY. Janelle and Chris are great breeders of Dobermans. We got our bundle of joy on Saturday. The experience was the best. I highly recommend Southern Paws Dobermans.

I believe in them, and I don’t think “botched ears” are dangerous for the dog unless you want them for the wrong reasons. Excited to work with them and find the perfect puppy.
