Mittelwest German Shepherds

As a longtime GSD enthusiast it has been a pleasure to work with Mittelwest and Julie. Clearly their breeding program speaks for itself: their dogs and puppies are beautiful and they are true to the standard. Mittelwest is an AKC breeder of Merit and rated #1 breeder of GSD in the US by the German Shepherd Society of Germany both are extraordinary achievements. I have never purchased a puppy or dog without meeting the puppy and the breeder in person. As I explained to Julie we have 2 toy poodles and I had just lost the best GSD that I have ever owned in my life, a true breed ambassador and Julie understood that. Julie knew the type of puppy that would make a good fit, a puppy with a steady, kind and loyal temperament. I never thought that after loosing my dog I would ever find another GSD that would even remotely fill that void. I just cannot say enough about what a great pup Juno is and what a great experience it has been working with Mittelwest!!

We got our boy Leo last year from Mittelwest German Shepherds. Leo is now 14 months old and a beloved part of our family. He is wonderful with children, confident, energetic and a quick learner. I appreciate the care and concern Julie Martinez has given us. I have asked her several questions since getting Leo and she is always quick to respond and assist. Julie is invested in her dogs and provides the support to guide you through all situations. If you’re serious about getting a quality German Shepherd and want a breeder who is invested in you and your dog, I highly recommend Julie and Mittelwest.

We recently purchased a female long-haired beauty from Mittelwest. She is 16 weeks old, so we’ve had her for eight weeks. She is healthy, good natured and quick to learn. We could not be happier with our sweet girl. We appreciate all the help we received from Julie and her team in making the selection, helping with transportation and guidance on welcoming a GSD into our home.

I have a 2 year old and 7 month old GSD pups from Mittelwest. They are both Kalua puppies and have the most amazing temperaments. I've been asked many times by vets, trainers, and random strangers - Where did you get that dog? He/she is not like so many other shepherds we meet. They both love children and adults, play well with other dogs, love trips to pet friendly stores, restaurants, and do well at the vet visits. I've known about Mittelwest and have been reading about their amazing dogs LONG before I purchased one from them because I live on the east coast and they are a 16 hour drive from us. But after purchasing 2 pups from a reputable east coast breeder that were wonderful family pets, but had health problems and were reactive to other dogs (despite extensive training and socialization), I called Julie. I told her exactly what I was looking for in a GSD. She sent me several options. I was still hesitant because bringing home a puppy is a life long commitment, and I was 16 hours away. How was I going to get the puppy here? What if Julie just gave me the puppy she wanted to get rid of? Could I trust her? The answer is YES! Julie works with a puppy nanny for reasonably priced transportation, and she sent me Liesl - a perfect match and GSD #5 for us. Liesl is a loving family pet, but springs into action when she feels needed. We live in a very rural area and she has chased coyotes, a bear, and lots of threatening bunnies :-) off our property and comes back when called. So, when my 9 year old male GSD passed unexpectedly, I looked at the Mittelwest website and saw that Kalua (Liesl's mom) had recently had another litter of puppies. It was meant to be and I emailed Julie. And again, she helped me pick Friedrich - one of 9 male puppies in the litter! That was hard! Friedrich is the sweetest, smart, loving, goofy puppy. I couldn't be happier with my two Mittelwest puppies and the experience with Mittelwest. Highly Recommend!

We got our girl Huela in July 2026. She just turned a year old this month. The entire process was smooth and Julie was very informative. I felt very at ease even though I was purchasing the pup before seeing her in person. They even met me at the airport to give me the puppy. Since then Huela has grown into a beautiful dog. She’s incredibly smart, wants to work, and is also a wonderful family dog. She does great with my young children and the big and small animals we have. I feel incredibly blessed to have her and can’t thank Mittelwest enough
