We purchased our big girl, Athena from Dutch Maid 7.5 yrs ago. She is the best tempered dog, albeit the most stubborn too! She has never been sick in the years we have had her, nor any mobility issues. She is as spunky at 7.5 yrs as she was as a puppy! She’s a real blessing to our family.

We’ve had our Maple for about seven to eight months now. She is an absolute delight. She is a healthy girl and we couldn’t be happier. Her temperament from the time we brought her home to now hasn’t changed. She’s always loved people and she’s so confident in herself. The breeders were extremely knowledgeable and communication was amazing throughout the entire purchase process. I was able to schedule a day to go out and meet, not only the puppies, but the parents and even grandparents of the litter I chose from! These dogs are well taken care of and so extremely loved by their owners. I highly recommend.

We bought Our female Bernese , Ginger, 5 years ago and we are SO happy and in love with her. This breeder is just awesome. We visited several breeders in the USA , and to be honest we were very disappointed . And we finally met Paul and Verna and their amazing family and their great dogs. Everything was great : they take great care of their puppies while still having a high quality in terms of breed and Bernese mountain standards ( ginger is our 2 nd Bernese mountain se we are quite familiar with this Breed as a lot of people around us have some. ). The puppies are born in a clean and nice place and they are really taken care of until they go to their forever family. Our dog is balanced , beautiful , full of joy and full of love. We went out during Covid in 2020 to pick up our sweet girl. She is the BEST DOG E V E R! Wonderful temperament, very obedient, and loves being with us. Such an amazing companion dog. She loves to dig, only wish I could get her to dig where I need to plant. The whole experience was wonderful with Verna and Paul. And special thanks to Caleb for his help getting photos.

Meet the Breeder
Our goal is to raise the healthiest happiest dogs around as excellent companions and working dogs. Welcome to Dutch Maid Bernese. We are a small Christian family in the Northeast corner of Indiana, just outside of Ft. Wayne, IN. We live on a farm with a few horses and some beef cattle. Our family consists of myself, Paul Schmucker, and my wife of 22 years, Verna. The Lord has blessed us with 3 precious children: Caleb, Grace, and Jared. A little over 10 years ago, we bought our first Bernese! It was love at first sight for all of us!!! After having them for only a short time, we knew this was the breed for us. Our whole family is involved with raising these wonderful family companions. We started breeding them about 7 years ago. It has turned into a wonderful family project. Our goals are to breed for quality, confirmation, and disposition. Our dogs have outstanding temperaments, and our children very well socialize the puppies. They absolutely love people and are terrific with children. It has been a great joy to provide many families with a loving new member of their family. When our puppies leave our farm, they will have been examined by our vet, have dew claws removed, and be up to date with deworming and vaccinations. Please feel free to contact us anytime. Visitors are welcome. We are a dedicated family-run breeder who cares about the well-being of our animals. We work hard to breed quality dogs. Each puppy is actively socialized for a happy healthy well-adjusted adult.
