Blue Moon Mini Shepherds

My family  lives on a hobby farm in a small town called Pequot Lakes in central MN. We are lucky to have a home with many acres of woods, fields, ponds, with lots of room to run and play. I have been an animal nut for as long as I can remember. Indoor and outdoor pets have ranged from the garden variety of cats and dogs to horses, chickens, lizards, snakes, hamsters, chinchillas, and guinea pigs, and of course, the goldfish or two. But by far my favorite are dogs, with horses being a very close second. My 35 years of experience with dogs has covered many breeds – Spaniels, Huskies, Heinz 57, Poodles, Pomeranians, Beagles, Labs, Terriers, Collies and so on. I wished to have one of every kind because I couldn’t decide what I liked the best! When I started my search for the perfect dog, I had a laundry list of requirements. Cute of course, controllable (LOL) shedding and coat care, minimal health problems, easy to train (smart), loyal, protective, active and fun loving, great with children, and small enough to jump on my lap without knocking the wind out of me! But this dog had to be tough enough to handle the rigors of an active family as well as the variety hobby farm living brings, not yappy and did not require a dog sweater in cold weather (but sweaters are cute!).

The Mini American Shepherd met my list and so much more than ever imagined. Bringing a MAS into our family has forever changed us. We still love all the breeds and are a dog-lovin‘ family, but love our mini’s the most – isn’t that the way it should be? Many people have asked me why I want to breed Miniature American Shepherds. It has always been hard for me to explain why and really get my point across. I read this article while waiting for an appointment. Not only was I glad to find out I am not a “Crazy Dog Lady”, but this explains my hobby well.
