We just got a Shiba Inu from Arctic Shibas/Akitas, and he has a wonderful temperament, super healthy, and came to us practically fully potty trained at 9 weeks. We are 100% getting on their Akita waiting list as soon as we can accommodate a larger pup!

We recently brought home our Akita puppy, Zuko, from Melissa, and we couldn’t be happier! We had been on Melissa’s waitlist for a long time, as life wasn’t the right fit for a dog during those years. Despite the delay, Melissa was incredibly understanding and kept us in the loop with updates and check-ins. When the timing finally aligned for our family, Melissa guided us to choose the most perfect male Akita—and Zuko has truly exceeded all our expectations. The process of getting Zuko was seamless, even though we had him shipped to California. Melissa took care of every detail, ensuring Zuko arrived safely and ready to settle into his new home. Zuko’s temperament is incredible—he’s calm, confident, and so well-socialized. He’s amazing with our toddlers, being patient and gentle, and it’s clear he was raised with the utmost care and love—which speaks volumes about the time Melissa puts into raising her puppies. Melissa’s passion and expertise with Akitas are unmatched. She is always available to answer questions and support us through the process, making the experience smooth and enjoyable. Zuko has been such a perfect addition to our family, and we are forever grateful to Melissa for making this dream a reality. We couldn’t recommend her more! If you’re looking for a dedicated, knowledgeable, and caring Akita breeder, Melissa is the one to trust.

Our new family member from Artic Akitas is the best dog ever he is very smart, socialble and was quick to potty train. Melissa from Arctic Akitas is the most helpful person ever, she was able to answer all my Akita questions, very helpful, and they shipped him from Fairbanks, with an overnight stay in Portland, then to Burbank as not the stress the puppy! She really knows the breeds and loves her dogs! Thank you Melissa for my new best friend!

Would give a million stars if I could. Melissa is an amazing person who truly cares for animals. From the very beginning communication was clear and prompt filled with information and heart. I really appreciated the layout of the website. I like to read and research and I think that she goes above and beyond with providing that. Also immerses you in the process with updates, posts, and videos on there as well as Instagram and YouTube. Clearly an ethical breeder who gives individual attention to every animal in her care. Temperament and exposure was something important to us. So reading that this was a huge factor in breeding, seeing videos of the parents and the babies, how they are exposed to other dogs, cats, and children made me very happy. They had lots of adventures in the Alaskan outdoors and even experienced bath time. I love how thorough she is in vetting families, the questions are well thought out ensuring a safe and good fit within their new homes. We discussed at length our families dynamics, future goals, and the personalities of the different puppies. She answered so many questions. I told her I'd love to read a book if she ever chooses to write one because she has so much heart, experience, and so much to offer in her perspective. I spent weeks looking for books on Akitas and came up with very few. So definitely ask if you have questions because she's super knowledgeable. Theres tons of information about their lineage. I enjoyed the book she did recommend. It taught me so much about the history. I really appreciated that she has had years of experience and communications with Alaskan airlines. We really wanted to fly to pick our baby boy up but we did the math. With the round trip tickets for us humans we could instead use that money to buy our dogs a very large kennel so they can free roam when playing outside when we aren't going for a hike. So that's what we chose to do. I am always anxious about flying animals because some of the stories you hear. She was very reassuring. Gave me updates and directions. Even communicated with me while I was picking him up from cargo. Our baby boy is the best thing that's ever happened to us. He has the best temperament I've ever seen in a dog, especially a puppy.. one that just traveled the world and it would be totally understandable if he wasn't at 100 but despite going through all that he's amazing and we are only a day in. He's only a tiny baby but he's pretty much potty trained as long as you take him out on time. Potty training has never gone as smoothly with any other pet. Our dog instantly became maternal. She had been grieving out other pet and not acting like herself. Since we got him home she's been at peace.. happy... Playful.. gentle.. cuddling. Our cats who usually take time to warm up all came to greet him, some even slept in the bed with him near by. My parents German shepherd great Pyrenees met him and they both did amazing. He sleeps through the night and when he's up he quietly plays. Him and our other dog go out for potty at the same time. It wasn't like anyone had to adjust (which is totally normal to need time). It's like everyone already knew him and had just been waiting for him. My parents both say he's the most beautiful tiny baby in the world. We all love him. We love that he came from a wonderful place with wonderful breeders that we can keep touch with, ask questions, potentially see pictures of siblings as they get older while sharing photos of him as he grows. He's the sweetest most chill, gentle, silly, adorable baby bear cub. Worth every penny. We love him endlessly and I will forever be grateful to Arctic Akitas and recommend them to everyone.

We had an amazing experience with this breeder. We got a Shiba Inu and he is well socialized and very healthy. The whole process was easy and lots of communication to keep us updated. We may even get a Japanese Akita from them in the future
